The first forum needs to be around this burning issue, doesn't it?
I am just putting some figures together, based on reports and numbers provided by the ISS (Institute for Security Studies) and international research.
Despite the fact that we seem to see and feel crime more than we did in the past:
The overall crime rate in SA has gone down by 20% since 2001, while globally the same rate has gone up by 30%
Murder cases have gone down from 66.9 cases/100.000 residents in 94/95 to 38.6
South Africa still leads the number of rape cases per resident (1.19), followed by other insecure countries, like #2 Seychelles (0.788), #3 Australia (0.777), and #5 Canada (0.733)
In the list of crime per residents, South Africa is currently on #10 (77.18), followed by Germany (!!!!)! #1 is Dominica, #2 New Zealand, #3 Finland
No crime problem in South Africa?
Of course - BIG crime problem in South Africa, but we are certainly not alone, and, as Albert Einstein said, everything is relative.
